Balwyn Residence
Defined by its enduring material palette and finely resolved details, Balwyn Residence is anchored by a quiet sense of inner-suburban stillness.
Project Type: Residential, Custom New Home
Polished concrete floors flow throughout the home, anchoring the interiors with tonal continuity and functional durability. The kitchen features a custom-manufactured spotted gum island bench, paired with marble benchtops and subtle charcoal hardware. Suspended overhead, recycled spotted gum beams — salvaged from a decommissioned Queensland bridge — introduce warmth, scale and narrative to the open living space.
Practical inclusions are elevated by bespoke execution, from a custom wine cellar to cabinetry finishes that carry the material palette with clarity across the interior. A thoughtful interplay of texture and tone continues in the bathroom, where textured tiles and traditional joinery echo the character of the home.
Beyond the interiors, a meticulously crafted Japanese landscape design completes the sense of immersion. Site-cut quarried stepping stones lead past a koi pond, with each boulder and placement curated to reflect a deliberate sense of flow and quiet rhythm. A private retreat as much as a family residence, Balwyn Residence is defined by its natural finishes and enduring architectural detail.
