Rutherford's Corner

A character-filled corner bar brought to life through a detailed commercial fitout.

Project Type: Commercial, Hospitality fit-out

Rutherford’s Corner blends old-world familiarity with contemporary nuance — a layered hospitality space where history, texture, and neighbourhood connection come together.

Located on a prominent corner in Malvern East, Rutherford’s Corner is a two-level venue designed to feel instantly familiar — as though it had always been part of the neighbourhood’s social fabric. Avela was engaged to deliver the full build and commercial fit-out, bringing to life a richly layered hospitality space with striking material detail and lasting presence.

Formerly an electrical showroom, the site was reimagined as a modern-day public house with nods to traditional English pubs, European bars, and British Colonial interiors. Downstairs, the palette leans into exposed brick, timber, and tiled finishes, creating a grounded and casual atmosphere. Upstairs, textured plaster, wainscoting, and velvet furnishings add warmth and distinction, transforming the space into a more intimate salon-style lounge.

Every element — from material selection to finishing detail — contributes to a space rich in atmosphere, offering locals a place that feels both elevated and familiar; a destination that welcomes a casual drink and an evening spent in good company.
